The werf Symposium

18:00 – 19:30 – Potluck – Bring some food, share some food.
19:30 – 22:00 – conversation about this weeks topic.
22:00 – whenever – People who can’t get enough keep talking 😉
The Werf Symposium: Every three weeks we come together to dine & wine, and have good conversations about some of the bigger questions life throws at us.

In this edition we’ll talk about the mind and consciousness. We’ll try to get at the heart of what it means to be (more or less) human.

The philosophical questions surrounding the mind are interesting and quite fundamental ones. The mind is after all the locus of our experience yet the way it functions can’t be easily explained. It doesn’t fit in neatly in an uncontroversial worldview. For example: we either have a free will which doesn’t fit with the way physics determine interactions in nature or we don’t which doesn’t fit with an uncontroversial view of what it means to be human.
